Our beetroot!

We harvested some beetroot today. Having said "we" I meant David as he was the one who physically did it and I only gave some support by making a cup of tea for him from time to time. Needless to say, I don't eat beetroot though I know I should. I just don't like the smell of it and they are quite a messy thing to eat, even when cooked they still look like a lump of something from a road accident. Anyway, David LOVES them and that is all it matters.
Okay, this is what he did with them today. After he harvested them, he cut off the leaves, washed the beets then steamed them for half an hour until they tendered enough to put the knife in gently. Then, he took them out of the steamer and put them in a bowl of ice-cold water. After three minutes, he peeled them by hand and then sliced them. Finally, he put them in freezer bags, one bag per meal. Now, he reckoned that we can also eat their leaves! So, he did the same process to the leaves and put them with the beets in the freezer bags so that he could bring them out for a meal. HARD WORK!
วันนี้เราทำเก็บเกี่ยวบีทรู้ท ที่เขียนว่า "เรา" นั้นแท้ที่จริงแล้วก็คือเดวิด เพราะว่าเขาเป็นคนที่ลงแรงเก็บเกี่ยวมันคนเดียว และฉันก็แค่ให้กำลังใจด้วยการชงชาให้ดื่มเป็นครั้งคราว อดไม่ได้ที่จะต้องบอกว่าฉันไม่ชอบกินบีทรู้ททั้งๆที่รู้ว่าควรจะกิน นั่นก็เพราะว่าฉันไม่ชอบกลิ่นมัน แล้วมันยังกินเลอะเทอะ แม้จะกินสุกๆ มันก็ยังดูเหมือนก้อนอะไรสักอย่างที่เพิ่งออกมาจากห้องฉุกเฉิน อย่างไรก็ตามเดวิดชอบกินมันเป็นที่สุด และนั่นก็พอแล้ว
เอาล่ะ มาว่ากันถึงว่าเขาจัดการกับมันอย่างไร หลังจากที่เก็บเกี่ยวแล้ว เขาก็จัดการตัดใบของมันออก ล้างผลแล้วนึ่งในลังถึงเป็นเวลาครึ่งชั่วโมงจนกระทั่งมันนิ่มพอที่เอามีดจิ้มได้เบาๆ แล้วเขาก็นำมันออกจากลังถึงแล้วแช่มันในน้ำเย็นจัดเป็นเวลาสามนาที หลังจากนั้นก็ปลอกเปลือกแล้วหั่นผลเป็นชิ้นๆ ก่อนจะนำใส่ถุงพลาสติก หนึ่งถุงต่ออาหารหนึ่งมื้อ  แล้วเขาก็ยังบอกว่าเรากินใบของมันก็ได้ด้วยล่ะ ดังนั้นเขาก็เลยจัดการกับใบของมันด้วยขั้นตอนเดียวกันก่อนจะใส่ใบเขียวในถุงพลาสติกรวมกับผลบีทรู้ทแล้วแช่ช่องฟรีซ พอเวลาจะนำมาทานก็หยิบออกมาหนึ่งถุงต่ออาหารหนึ่งมื้อ เฮ้อ เหนื่อย อาหารนี่นะเป็นของมีค่าหายาก แต่ละขั้นตอน ขนาดเขียนบรรยายยังเหนื่อยขนาดนี้ ทำจริงๆ จะเหนี่อยขนาดไหน
