Life in Norfolk: Salthouse

Finn and I go to Salthouse almost every weekend. During the week we gather left over bread and crust, put them together in a bag then we drive to Salthouse to feed the ducks. Finn will never like the idea of it and when I announce "C'mon, it's time to go to feed the ducks." he will give a good groan as if I sent him to prison. But once we are there he simply loves it.
We always say we feed the ducks but as a matter of fact there are all sorts of fowl there. There are swans (last week we discovered a new member of the pond - a very beautiful black swan which Finn didn't think it was a swan), geese, moorhens, seagulls etc. There was once an old horse lived in the field by the pond too and we used to give him some crunchy carrots but he has gone now. We weren't sure whether he was drown in the bad flood and storm that hit North Norfolk coast a few months ago or he was rescued and now lives elsewhere. Oh well, life in the pond goes on without the old horse though we miss him.
Salthouse is a small seaside town on the coast of North Norfolk. There are a few restaurants (one of them is a great seafood place) and one shop. There is also a long pebbly beach and the car park is free of charge.
In the summer we will go to the beach but during the winter and spring we just feed the ducks. It is also a great place for bird-watching and there are many tracks you can walk and set a little observation area.

The pond is always teeming with life

Swans stayed here during this winter

The geese are back this spring we didn't see them during this winter

Finn was excited to see the geese. He thinks they are nice looking - a mix of a duck and a swan and he tried to feed them specially but found them very slow and not very bright!!!
Perhaps that is why people say "you silly goose!"

We normally avoid feeding seagulls though they are always very quick at snatching foods. Somehow we think of them as a vermin but this time Finn took a fancy to them. He was impressed by their ability to fetch bits of bread in mid-air.

They are noisy and greedy as far as I'm concerned.

Big black rain clouds approaching as we were leaving. As soon as we were in car and slammed the door shut, the rain poured down hard. We escaped just in time!
