Sheringham on Saturday morning

Image
I can't believe we've come to the end of May! I can count the nice days we have this month with one hand. At the beginning of this week it rained solidly for three days which nearly made everyone went mad with boredom and despair. I thought we were going to have a flood as the water in the river went very high -- thank goodness we got away with it. Anyway, this morning was bright and sunny so we took the opportunity to enjoy it by going to the seaside. We went to Sheringham and had a good time.   Clear blue sky in Sheringham Even Mr Einstein enjoys a cup of tea in Sheringham Unfortunately, the nice weather didn't last long as by afternoon it turned grey and cloudy. At least, we enjoyed our morning in the sun.

Life in Norfolk: Salthouse

Image
Finn and I go to Salthouse almost every weekend. During the week we gather left over bread and crust, put them together in a bag then we drive to Salthouse to feed the ducks. Finn will never like the idea of it and when I announce "C'mon, it's time to go to feed the ducks." he will give a good groan as if I sent him to prison. But once we are there he simply loves it. We always say we feed the ducks but as a matter of fact there are all sorts of fowl there. There are swans (last week we discovered a new member of the pond - a very beautiful black swan which Finn didn't think it was a swan), geese, moorhens, seagulls etc. There was once an old horse lived in the field by the pond too and we used to give him some crunchy carrots but he has gone now. We weren't sure whether he was drown in the bad flood and storm that hit North Norfolk coast a few months ago or he was rescued and now lives elsewhere. Oh well, life in the pond goes on without the old horse tho...

The view from my window: it's a better day!

Woke up this morning and felt that today was going to be a better day. The sun was out, the sky was blue and from the field beyond I could hear a cuckoo! It''s been raining for five days and plants seem to love it! But I love it more when the sun is out. My pansies look very happy this morning My vegetable patch is doing well

Sugar and spice and all things nice

If you live in England you have to be overweight. Oops, sorry I was to say you have to put on weight. Look at this lovely scone and think who could resist that. I know I couldn't. I also know that I could eat ten of these in one go. Cream tea: Devon scone with clotted cream and jam accompanies with a nice cup of tea

The Remains of the day

Image
For me, ironing is a boring task that has to be done. I try to make this task is less boring by watching one of my favourite films on DVD or a film I want to watch that I picked up cheaply from charity shop. It is almost like to kill two birds with one stone - I get the job done and I am entertained. This week it was The remains of the day's turn. The remains of the day The remains of the day is the story of a dedicated English butler named Mr Stevens who would not let anything interfere with his professionalism. Not even when he falls in love with Miss Kenton the high-spirited housekeeper, still he would not let his person...

The view from my window

I don't normally like to complain about the weather as I don't see the point, we can't do anything to change it anyway, but this time I will have to moan a little that it's been raining here, everyday for five days now. It hailed yesterday which made me cross to think what it would do to my young plants. Luckily, they seemed to withstand the hail. Looked out of the window this morning and this was that I saw -- grey sky and wet earth. I'm hoping that we might have a little bit of sunshine during the day -- just to cheer me up.

On a wet day.

It's a wet, cold and miserable day. We can't really do much on a day like this. Let's have a look at some of Finn's drawings. He drew them when he was six. I am still very fond of them. Happy rainy day!
