Tweedle dee and Tweedle dum

Image
We don't own any pets but we have 2 cats. Well, they are our neighbour's cats who decided that they are going to adopt us as well. This is Tweedle dee. He is a tomcat who is fat and greedy. He is ever so gentle though. What I like about him is he is so gentle and he will let me stroke him as much as I like. Sometimes it almost likes he is hugging me back which is really, really sweet. He is also very chunky and warm and cuddly (makes a good hot water bottle in the winter) The bad thing is he sometimes very scruffy and doesn't clean himself very well. He sometimes has knotted fur, sticky head, messy eyebrow etc. This is Tweedle dum. She is Tweedle dee's older sister though she looks much smaller. She is a much quieter cat and not so greedy. She is a bit nervous though and doesn't like to be held for very long. She is very good at climbing trees. She is also a bit of a dreamer as she usually sits on the fence looking at things forever.

A nice day!

This weekend was absolutely awful, it rained and rained, so miserable. On top of the weather, David had a bad cold. Finn and I tried to escape the house full of virus to the cinema and found that all the tickets to see "How to train your dragon 2" were sold out! So, we headed back home, disappointed. Anyway, today is a better day regardless to the weather forecast said it would be rubbish. It was such a relieve to wake up in the morning to find the sun was out! and so far I did 2 whole loads of washing -- done and hung -- and might do the third one yet. I put the new plants in the soil.  I'm going to make today the most productive day ever. Clear blue sky is just what I like The bees are busy and we can't really blame them I love a nice, idle summer day.

Sugar and spice and all things nice II

Just discovered  Mr Kipling's Viennese whirls! I didn't really think it was going to be any good but I gave it a go. Turned out these little biscuits are so yummy and just melt in your mouth. They are not so sweet either. I'm afraid that I had just eaten the last one (in the photograph) and can't wait to get some more.

Blickling Hall

Image
Having been driving pass Blickling Hall numerous times and couldn't help admiring this lovely looking Georgian mansion where The Boleyn family once lived (only over 500 years ago!) and is believed to be the birthplace of Anne Boleyn, Queen of England. The chance came last month when my mother in law came for a visit and I had to think of a place to entertain her, Blickling Hall seemed to tick all the boxes. Blickling Hall main entrance I was told not to use camera with flash inside the hall so I couldn't take as many photographs of the rooms as I should like for I only had a small digital camera  -- not fair. Anyway, this is a statue of Anne Boleyn greeting you at the main staircase  This is the print room (so I was told)     This sassy lady was Countess of Suffolk Henrietta Howard. I also bought a postcard of  her portrait. I think she was so charming and fashionable. The library An interesting wi...

The smallest house in the world

We believe we live in the smallest house in the world which I'm sure it' s not true yet we like the exaggeration. Last week, I bought a lovely second hand book called "A Penguin year of stories and poems" which has lovely stories, poems and superb illustrations, I found this poem "Spring" by E. Lucia Turnbull that reminds me of our house and of which I'd like to share. SPRING 'My dear,' said Mrs Wren, 'If Mrs Cuckoo comes to call, I really think it would be best To see her in the hall. Explaining that our house It is so very very small, We have no room for paying guests Or any guests at all.'                     E. Lucia Turnbull ....that's my house!!!
